Every 25 years or so, we act like we’re reinventing the same ideas again, or that they’re magically, suddenly relevant to our world in a way they never were before.
(IMHO, books like this or 1984 are great, but resonated most clearly when they were published.)

I think the levels of surveillance we see today are just as relevant to 1984 as they were in 1949, when the book was published. In the case of communist regimes (especially the GDR), 1984 became much more relevant decades after it was published. 1984 is still extremely relevant if you look at modern day China.
